Our honest take

The Sony WH-1000XM5 is genuinely excellent and honest about the trade-off: if you need wireless ANC, nothing European directly competes at that price. The Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro is made in Germany and sounds better for music, but it's wired and has no ANC. The Austrian Audio Hi-X55 brings Viennese engineering to over-ear headphones with better frequency response than Sony. Neither cancels noise. If ANC is non-negotiable, Jabra's business headsets get close, but cost more.
